Humans instinctively yearn to attain everlasting happiness. This can be witnessed in countless ways in the modern world. For instance, sex for pleasure, consumption of alcohol, drugs are all done to experience some form of happiness. But behold, to much of one’s contempt, this diluted form of happiness turns out to be temporary. The person is then left in the realm of thought, thinking on the next move to make to attain that illusory happiness once again. Can such transient happiness be real when it fluctuates according to the experiences of the person? Such transient happiness is caused by one’s identification with the body where the person feels that they are the body leading them to identify themselves with almost every sensation, thought, emotion, feeling, and mental image that is experienced by the body and perceived by the Absolute Perceiver. Therefore, I ask you to inquire into who you truly are. Ask yourself, who has always been aware of all the sensations, surroundings, sounds, breathes, thoughts, emotions, feelings, and mental images that have occurred thus far. This process in which you enquire into the nature of your existence is known as self-enquiry. This is a form of meditation that is only focused on the subject being the true you, Pure Awareness, rather than the object being anything besides that Pure Awareness. As you remain as you truly are being Pure Awareness without identifying with any thoughts, sensations, emotions, feelings, and mental images related to the body, you will start to feel supreme peace which has always been within you but obscured by the blanket of thoughts that leads to extroversion. The more this is practiced, the longer you can hold the state in which you can directly abide as Pure Awareness without the intervention of identification with thoughts. Ultimately, sahaja samadhi (natural/effortless abidance as pure awareness) will result. That is the ultimate goal of human incarnation.
