Self-Healing: Exercises to Relieve Painful Symptoms
The techniques in Dizziness and Tinnitus by Joey Remeni will help you regain your confidence and balance.
Body scan
The Body Scan is a basic healing exercise using neuroplasticity. In this book you will get acquainted with several of its variations. You can do this exercise sitting, standing or lying down. In yoga, these types of exercises use Sanskrit terms: sukhasana, tadasana and shavasana, respectively.
Find a quiet, peaceful place where you can be alone without worrying about being interrupted.
Pay attention to the position of your body in space from the top of your head to your fingertips (this muscle sense is called proprioception). Feel the upholstery of the furniture and the clothes that touch your body. Pay attention to the left and right sides of your body, its upper and lower parts. Direct your gaze first inside yourself, and then outside, to the outside world.
Imagine that you are the creation of a talented sculptor. Feel your contours and curves. Pay attention to the position of your shoulders relative to your hips. Find your center of balance.
Try to cover as many tactile parameters as possible.
Feel everything. Feel connected to your body and try to feel that you are safe here and now. Gradually develop curiosity and a reverent attitude towards your body and its structure.
Notice the constant changes in your inner sensations. Be curious: Don't miss the fact that every time you practice body scanning, you experience completely new sensations.
Playful presence
Think about what things in your life (no matter how small) spark your curiosity and awe. Make a list of things that pique your interest and curiosity.
Allow yourself to look at your daily life with a new perspective, and let there be no room for judgment. Play with your observations and feelings. This will help you develop concentration and attention skills and the ability to be present in the present moment.
The most important element of neuroplasticity is freedom from judgment. You can also jot down your playful observations in a notebook; This practice can be continued as long as you feel it is beneficial.
My normal feelings
Try to understand how normality feels to you. Remember that focusing on bad feelings doesn't help matters at all. Clarify for yourself what normal sensations mean to you, using as specific concepts as possible. For example, calmness, relaxation, lack of worries, self-confidence, peace, clear mind, stability, enthusiasm, optimism...
Desired sensations
Determine what patterns of neural activity you want to create in order to feel at home in your body again. This is the basis of your daily activities.
Ask yourself the question: “What sensations do I want to feel?” Write down the answer so you know which way to go. Explore these bodily sensations. Through trial and error, try to find a way to activate these sensations in your daily life. Place the desired sensations at the forefront of your mind and allow them to bloom in full bloom.
Become your own friend
Let's launch the pathways responsible for friendship. First, pay attention to how you feel about yourself. What is it like to be your own friend? What can you do to get closer to yourself?
Become your own friend. As you notice different sensations in your body, give yourself support as needed.
Be curious. Become both the one who experiences these feelings and the compassionate friend who notices them. Feel how your own presence, full of love and kindness, helps you.
Treat yourself and your feelings the same way you would treat any friend. Do you feel completely different pathways being activated when you treat yourself as a friend? Pay attention to this.
How would you feel if your friendship with yourself lasted all day? With constant practice, over time you will notice that being friends with yourself turns into your new version of the norm.
