We have a thing in California called earthquake weather.

Now, it’s doubtful there is such a thing as weather pointing to an imminent earthquake. Scientists have been attempting to develop an early warning system for decades, without noticeable success. Animals are accurate forecasters, according to some, but monitoring Earth’s wild ones to suss out upcoming earth tremors is not a widespread practice.

There’s no such thing as earthquake weather, but that’s what some Californians call this peculiar stillness with a thrum of ominous energy running beneath it. It’s usually accompanied by a hazy sky and the impending sense of hot weather, which may or may not manifest.

If one feels whimsical, one can tune in to the center of Earth and discern a girding of the loins of Gaia. It feels like preparation for a battle is underway.

This illogical but very real non-phenomenon called earthquake weather is how I would describe the energetic pulse of the world right now.

Not only is it earthquake weather, but it feels like time is bending in most peculiar ways. Since two days ago, I’ve often glanced at the clock before I do various activities that indisputably take five or ten minutes. When I check the time afterward, though, only a minute or two has passed. Sometimes not even that. The hands of the clock have not moved.

Saturday morning took forever to go by. I don’t think I would’ve noticed if it was just once or twice, but this happened repeatedly from the time I got up to lunchtime.

Perception? Reality? An undulation in the plane we call time? Whatever it was, it was a new experience for me. And it does make me wonder if we’re witnessing the building blocks of reality being tossed and juggled, chunks of time or space or awareness bouncing and scattering in unexpected directions.

I wonder what they are building?

The quiet morning continues. Time has crawled by while I have done my morning things and interacted with family and worked on this article.

The tasks that await me are of the extraordinarily mundane and uninspiring variety—housecleaning, tax preparation. Because of the trickster time has become, somehow it’s now March 21 and unless a miracle occurs, taxes must be filed by April 15.

I suspect there’s a sneaky saboteur somewhere in my psyche that believes taxes will not need to be filed this year. That the upheaval so many of us have been waiting for is going to occur soon.

Part of that would surely be the announcement of the new financial system. Whether we call it the QFS or something else, whether it looks like what we imagine it will be or not, many commentators aver that it is an inevitability ponderously sliding its way toward universal awareness and deployment.

Will it blossom into being in the next week or two? Will debt jubilee occur? Will the apparently illegal income tax structure of the United States be lassoed and wrestled into submission?

Will we all be free?

I contemplate my mundane tasks and equally mundane errands and interactions with a surprisingly philosophical air. Unless and until I find out differently, the house isn’t going to clean itself, a Jetsons-style replicator is not going to make and serve meals, and Uncle Sam is not going to look kindly on me blowing off the intrusive demand for financial and personal information that Americans have been conditioned to accept.

The sky has cleared a bit, and a breeze has come up. The waiting stillness of earthquake weather has abated.

The storm is still coming, but perhaps not right this moment.
