For Every | Poem by Ananda

For every smile I give
For every smile I give
I feel 10 on me
For every compliment I give
I received more still
For every, “Hello”, secrets of the world revealed themselves to me
For every nod of recognition
the branches and fallen leaves bowed to me
For every unkind thought
I thrash about in a sea of all I am not
and have to hold on to the floating pieces of my truth
in this ocean of self-doubt
the longer I hold on
Inevitably I find myself back on the shore of self-love and surety and oneness
Unkind is not who I am
it's not that someone “out there” is doing something to me and that I am a victim of an unkind world. But rather, this is how I teach myself to stay in oneness and stay true to who I am.
