The Mind During Meditation
In the meditations, energy starts to build. It is important for everyone to understand that there's part of you, part of your subconscious, that does not want to change. Even though you're here saying you want to change the programing, another part of you doesn't want you to change. One of the ways that you avoid change is by opening the eyes during meditation. When you open your eyes, your focus moves outward and the energy that's building within dissipates.
So, be aware that in these meditations the energy gently builds. Sometimes it's not so obvious because it's gentle. But just be aware of the way that the mind wants to distract you. You may hear a cough outside and wonder who did that? Somebody may move or make some noise and your mind will wonder, “Who did that,” and then open the eyes and look. That's your subconscious avoiding staying with the building energy. Or suddenly you may feel, “Oh, I'm thirsty. I've got to have a drink.” That's your mind trying to distract you. And so in meditation, just be present, alert. If you find that you drift off and you notice it, just come back. Don't start judging yourself or putting yourself down because, “Oh, I spaced out.” It's natural. Just bring yourself back and be present again.
