Request: Spring Seeding | Mystical Muse

Hi friends! I have a request. “would you like to play a game?”

Spring seeding!

It’s a gifting project my kids and I are working on. You may already be familiar with it. Spring is revival time. So, we’re recreating plastic bottles/containers into planters of various design. Some will be planted with herbs, others with houseplants (water variety, dirt variety), and still others with be planted with flowering outdoor garden plants.

Larger containers will be seeded with wildflower mix. (I saw a deep discount (approx $18 for 800square ft worth of pollinator seed), and that’s where I found the idea for this project floating in the air. )

Many of the smaller (herb) containers will be randomly hung around our little city (with notes); flowering ones hung around on mailboxes, fence posts, etc. The ones with the houseplants (mainly pothos, wandering jew and spider plants since we already have them for cuttings) will be brought to local mom/pop business owners, given to workers we’re acquainted with. The wildflowers we haven’t decided yet. And sunflower seeds will be germinated at home in toilet paper rolls, and reengineered egg cartons, then left out front with a note offering them to whomever wants them.

(we’ll go back to wherever we hung items and retrieve the garbage/materials when done)

As well, our little home garden will once again be in pots on the front stoop. And an invitation will be noted for passers by to pick as they choose.

As I said, we’re using recycled materials mainly; as well as crafting items we have around usually: twine/yarn, paint/markers, etc. Dirt is free, (potting soil is available at dollar stores, etc). Many of the items we’ll be planting will come from clippings; many herbs (from the market) can be propagated in water. The financial expense of the project is negligible.

Consider though the value!! (Visions of flowers! flowers! more flowers! and birds, and bees and butterflies and smiling faces and sunshine!!) wowza!

Our intention is to play a “springtime secret santa” sort of thing. Just do it. “set it and forget it” and then set about whatever else comes next...

This isn’t a new idea by any means, BUT, it’s a GOOD idea. One that doesn’t go out of style, doesn’t have a limit to the creativity and good flow. So I’m/we’re gonna rock it!

Seed the world with small gestures of kindnesses and generosities and the world shall flourish!

Photo shows a few of the smallest pieces, using plastic ornaments with the tops popped out; these will be used for houseplant water propagation, and as well 'herb balls'. Had these in the craft bin, picked them up 'impulse buy' $2 clearance at wallyworld at the start of lockdown. I had felt it to be wasteful; but NowI can put it (all) to better/greater use!
