"A Mother's Hand"

A Mother’s hand embraces her child’s
Only for a little while
We make them laugh
We make them smile
Only for a little while
We let them think they know it all
We support them even as they fall
Not to cause further harm but as an act of love
What they don’t learn from us they will learn from the heavens above
We watch with good knowing, we need not hide
We know in our hearts the universe will provide
The opportunities our children need for learning and growth
We don’t believe these things, we know
And when they come back to us crying with bruised knees.
We look upon them and we are well pleased.
We say:
You wiggled free and decided to do your own thing, your own way,
Without learning from the lessons provided you wobbled and swayed.
The reality of disconnection was great and you fell under its enormous pressure,
And tremendous strain.
You know now the teaching of pain. Separation from true parentage is insane.
With a wet face and a crooked smile
The child says: “I was gone…but only for a little while.”
