What do we think of when the subject of leadership comes up?
Oh, gosh, I don’t want to be that ‘out there’!
Do I lose all my privacy?
Do I have to think about everything that comes out of my mouth?
What if I make a gaffe? Not for me!
But let’s think about it for a minute. Equality – such as is being demanded right now – has two sides. Equality of opportunity, yes. But also equality of responsibility.
It’s equally my responsibility to offer leadership where I can as it is my right to enjoy the fruits of opportunity.
My responsibility to whom? My country, whose “national security” interests have seen an erosion in civil rights since World War II? I don’t feel it in my gut. That card has been played too often. Sorry. Not this time.
Gaia? Yes. My soul contract with the Mother? Yes. The freeing of humanity from various forms of slavery? Yes.
My responsibility is to lead in areas where I have talents and skills, knowledge and ideas. Who wants to take it up and what they do with it are of no concern to me: I have the right to the work, but not to the fruits of my labor. (1)
So I’m not leading to be a leader. I’m leading to serve by offering my skills where they’re needed. Michael said something in this regard that has always stuck with me:
“As you assume profile [as we will after the Reval] – whether it is because of money or notoriety or political power or financial power, it matters not – it gives you a sense of being elevated. We would encourage you to take the elevator to the basement.” (2)
Another way of saying the same thing is: Let go, let go, let go.
All the rest are circumstances I can manage.
