How do you get out of the ravages of time when the world you live in is timed to the second? The clock ticks, and you must be somewhere. The clock tocks, and you must get back. Clocks seem to rule the world. Of course, you are going to go along with the times, and get to work on time and pick up your children on time. Obeisance to time can be considerate.

At the same time, you don’t have to take time quite so seriously, as if time were a dragon you are afraid of. Even though time rules the roost, you don’t have to get out of breath. Even as you hurry, you can put time in its place. You can master time. You don’t have to be its victim.

Of course, you abide by time’s rules. Despite your protests, there is something about time that you really like. You like the momentum of it. And you are, perhaps, a little self-righteous when other people may not abide by time.

Avoid the word “hurry.” Avoid the world “late.” Avoid saying “on time.” Consider time a pal that accompanies you. Time is always tugging at you the way a child might tug at your dress, but you can still blithely go along in life and see the sights. Time doesn’t always have to be on your back. You do have some say about time.

Find some non-time in your life. You have those moments when it is as if you are under a spell, and you forget about time. Time drags you on its leash, and yet you do sometimes step out of time’s restraints. Allow time to give you some time off.

Go roll in the grass. Allow yourself non-timed activity in life. You can stroll in life. Go to the park. Find Me there. I don’t rush. You can stop rushing. Allow enough time so you don’t have to rush.

Timelessness also exists. There is no time at all, and there is all the time in the world.

Tell time more by the sun and the stars and the moon. The moon goes in step with its own time. The moon shines on you. The moon takes its time. It doesn’t hurry. The moon knows there is time enough for everything.

If time were your bulletin board, you would not fill it up to the brim. You would leave some blank space. Blank space is good. Call it Zen. Do not cram in activities. It is all right to be idle from time to time.

There are appointments in your life that you have to keep, and yet you can allow free space around appointments. Avoid crowding your closet, and avoid crowding your life. Do more ambling in life. Be aware of the toll that time constraints put on you, and reserve some time without boundaries. Time yourself.

No longer think in terms of enough time or not enough time. Think in terms of abundance. Fit time into your life. You do have say over it.

Take a day off from time. Cover your clocks. You do not need to be so dependent upon clocks. Work while the sun is out, and stop working when the sun sets. Be like a farmer in life. He looks up at the sky.

Consider time like weather. Weather is always there. Give it respect, and yet you can go out in the rain, and you can walk in the snow, and you can sit in the sun. Time is free, beloveds. Be free in time.
