Inside you is a well of good fortune. It is like you have a stock of wares called fortune, and you sell to yourself.
Sometimes you find bright copper pennies in the street, and sometimes you find trash. That which you pick up, you have cast your eye on. We could even say that you strew the bright shining pennies, and you strew the trash.
We could even say that you strew yourself before yourself. You are the collector and distributor of yourself. You spot something of yourself. You may not want it, yet you say: “Aha,” and you pick it up even when you don’t want it.
Whatever life in the world holds for you, beloveds, you cast it before you, and you pick it up.
You may say that is unfair for Me to say. You may say that grief was thrown at you like a snowball out of the blue. You may say you would never have chosen it. Beloveds, if the snowball is grief, you have chosen to nurse it. You may say the snowball hit you in the heart or it hit you in the eye. It hit your whole Being. It is a blow from which you have to recover. You say I must grant you that. You say that I, God, must understand that you didn’t choose grief, and you didn’t deserve to have it coming to you.
The force of the snowball made you stumble. Yes, I understand. And now I ask you to pick yourself up. Keep walking. Throw the snowball of grief like salt over your shoulder.
If you fall in the brambles, you get up and out of them. How you got there isn’t the question really. Whether it was fair or not is not the question. Do you get out of the brambles now or later, that is the question.
It is good to be accepting in the world. You can’t deny that the snowball hit you. You accept that. It is the moil accompanying the snowball that you do not have to accept. You do not have to stay down. You have to get up. A blow that knocks you down may seem wanton, yet you were hit, and so it is you who must get up, brush yourself off, and keep going.
You are seeking your fortune. There is a treasure for you, and you are on your way to finding it. Let nothing stop you. Keep going. Keep going. There is nothing to gain by putting up a sign that says: “Woe is me, hit by a snowball.” There is nothing to gain from bewailing. There is everything to gain by letting go even of sorrow.
If you are going to let go of the past, then you must also let go of the sorrow that accompanied it. Sorrow and grief are not to be carried around. Do not think you have to carry a squeezed heart in memory of the past.
The name of the game you play is Letting Go. I don’t want you to bury anything in your heart. On the contrary, let go of the baggage in your heart. It is in excess anyway. You have had enough. You have had too much.
I would like to relieve you of past sorrow now. Let Me lift you out of the past. Enter this land of the present where you leave all the worldly possessions of grief and heartache behind.
This is the New Land I take you to. This is the country you have been seeking. This is where freedom is. Free of the past, you are free.
