When we talk about the assumption of divine authority, it sounds as if we’re talking about a new sheriff in town.

Perhaps we are.

I’d like to look at “divine authority” as an aspect of taking charge of ourselves.

I know others use the concept in ways different than that, but that’s what I’d like to focus in on. (1)

So many of us – myself included – suffer from low self-esteem. You all know my story.

It can be summed up in one line. (Hankies out.) My whole life is about proving my Dad wrong when he called me a “lazy, no-good good-for-nothing.” I am not lazy. Look at how much I have written, Dad.

So I’m right there in the trenches with everyone else on this one.

The way I’m using the concept of my divine authority is not so far from what I’ve called my “Adult.” Reparenting myself is what I’m called upon to do here. (2)

When I assume my divine authority, I put aside childish things like a lack of self-esteem and restore myself to emotional balance and cognitive peace with myself.

I will no longer allow myself to pull myself down with bickering pro and con on whether I’m lazy or no-good. Enough already.

I call myself on my racket. What was it Jim Carrey said in Liar, Liar? “I hold myself in contempt.”

I declare that particular distraction from Reality to be at an end.

What the Company of Heaven calls “divine authority” I might call “self-command” or “self-possession.” We take charge of ourselves.

Nobody else. Just ourselves.

We never were not in charge of ourselves, but now we assume control self-consciously.

We never were in charge of anyone else. We all simply cooperated in the illusion.

I hark back to what the Arcturians said a long time ago now:

A: You have to be the master of your consciousness at all times. (3)

A: You will be called upon to master EVERY thought and feeling. (4)

Where I end up in the process of meeting this requirement is assuming my divine authority over myself or taking command, taking charge, or assuming control over me.

What I then do with myself when I have the reins in hand – something I’ve always been unwilling to do – remains an open book.
