Solar Eclipse In Cancer: Addressing Our Shadows

We are having a partial Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 12th/13th. It is a supercharged New Moon that not only influences this month, but also the following 6 months. The only place on land that it will be visible is the Southeastern tip of Australia, however, it will still affect everyone in some way.
This one marks the beginning of eclipse season which occurs every 6 months when the New Moon and Full Moon occur near the Lunar Nodes. Most of the time there are two eclipses, however, in this case there will be three; with this one followed by a Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th and a Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 11th.
Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the 6 months following and could also influence up to 6 weeks prior. You may not actually notice the effects around the time it occurs, but perhaps could feel it, and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months following. Mars is currently retrograde (since June 26th) while Mercury is also slowing down to go retrograde on July 25th/26th. This reflects adjustments that are occurring this summer combined with the shifts of the eclipses. Mars retrograde is a period in which issues and developments around action, sex, aggression, anger, and desires could come up. Ultimately this is a period which facilitates a re-orientation of how we apply these energies of Mars. I wrote a full article about it which you can read here.
Solar Eclipse In Cancer Opposite Pluto In Capricorn
This is first eclipse in the Cancer-Capricorn axis of a series which will continue next year more strongly as we are also still finishing off eclipses in the Leo-Aquarius axis which began last year. This is the beginning of a process of shifts in how we work with the energy of this sign which also depends on where it is located in your natal astrology chart.
Cancer is the sign of nurturing, sensitivity, emotional bonding, family, and the domestic life. It is also associated with security, comforts, nostalgia, while also instinctual, protective and subjective. It can also be vulnerable, clingy, overly emotional and attached to the past.
This Eclipse is in a tight opposition with Pluto in Capricorn, which almost gives it the effect of a Full Moon although it is a New Moon. At worst, it can bring challenges connected to fears, our shadow selves, power struggles, control, hidden matters, and can stimulate the manipulative potentials of both Cancer and Capricorn.
Pluto has some similar properties to Mars as well, and considering that it is currently retrograde, we can see overlapping themes connected to intensity, anger, sexuality, and desire play out. Both of these planets highlighted now can also make people more edgy. With Pluto being in Capricorn and Mars retrograding back to Capricorn later, it’s also possible that some of the challenges and struggles that come up now could be connected to issues around structure, career, business, resources, or responsibilities.
Pluto also rules death and rebirth while Jupiter just ended its retrograde in Scorpio which is a Plutonian sign. At best this combined energy can help to facilitate growth associated with overcoming fears. It can also help to bring our shadow aspects into greater awareness and perhaps have some sort of transformational, empowering, or purging qualities towards them. When it comes to healing, both Pluto and Scorpio are about going deep.
Jupiter In Scorpio Is Now Direct
Some of the themes that came up in our lives in March when Jupiter began its retrograde may start to be resolved or move forward now and in the coming weeks. Or perhaps we may begin to take steps and move forward with anything Jupiter related. This could have anything to do with plans around travel, education, and experiential pursuits. In some cases, spirituality, beliefs, and philosophies can also be affected. Business wise, it could have to do with marketing and publishing.⠀
We could potentially experience a positive shift around the negative expressions of this planet which include overindulging, overdoing, judgement, and overlooking blind spots. Also, being in Scorpio, some of the Jupiter energies mentioned could be connected to money, investments, shared resources, deep understandings, sexuality, power, or transformation. We may also begin to progress with new developments or growth in these areas.⠀
However, considering that this summer we have three eclipses, Mars retrograde, and Mercury retrograde in a square with Jupiter, we can expect more changes, challenges, and shifts taking place that could also impact anything coming up now that is Jupiter related.
Earth Grand Trine With Venus, Saturn, and Uranus
Although this summer has some potentially challenging and irritating astrological energies, this specific eclipse has a really nice Grand Trine in Earth signs. Venus recently entered Virgo days before this eclipse. In this sign it seeks quality in Venus ruled areas of love, beauty, pleasures, friendships, and social dynamics. It can also be picky and critical around these things.
Venus’ grand trine to Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus can have long term effects as Saturn is a builder and Uranus is forward moving. This can be a great energy for beneficial developments around social or love relationships, financial matters, or anything to do with aesthetics.
Uranus and Saturn are slower moving planets in comparison to Venus and will be in a tight trine until mid-September which in general is good for taking new, innovative, or unconventional approaches in our structures, business, careers, and responsibilities. With Venus in the mix now, it could bring creativity, friends, lovers, and social connections into that equation in some way.
Making Intentions And Things To Consider
Is there anything in your life calling for some sort of purging or transformation at this time? Do you have any fears coming up, and if so, how can you address them? Are there developments in your life pushing you to be more caring, nurturing, or vulnerable in a certain area?
What relationships in your life are worthy of building or exploring new territory with? What new developments or thoughts, have come up for you in connection to travel, education, experience, beliefs, or even marketing? If this applies, what steps do you need to make in the next 1-2 months in order to fulfil any of this?
These are just some examples of what to consider during this time. However, keep in mind that the energies of this eclipse will be a part of the backdrop over the coming months and there are still unforeseen developments that will occur this summer that will shift part of your direction, perspective, and how you assert yourself.
