A Note from Natalie…
Beautiful Souls:
You’ve heard this before—If you don’t ask, you can’t receive. But many of us hesitate to ask for help. We have been taught that it shows weakness. The problem is, the universe can’t give you what you want if you don’t ask, if you don’t visualize. So we get to learn to ask for support.
Dr. Peebles gives us an exercise to help hone our asking skills. He says there are three ways to ask for support each day:
- Ask for support with something you DO actually need
- Ask for support with something BEFORE you need it
- Ask for something with something you don’t need at all
You walk in and ask an employee where the screwdrivers are—that’s BEFORE. You could have wandered the aisles…but you asked for support and now you know where to go.
When you get to the right aisle, let’s say the screwdriver you want is high up—ask for help in reaching the farthest one—that’s when you do need help.
Then when you leave the store, ask someone to get the door for you—that’s when you don’t really need it at all.
These exercises strengthen the muscle of asking for support and receiving it.
Most people only ask for help after they seriously need it. When we get in the practice of asking ahead of the need, we open the channel to receive support all the time.
These are Dr. Peebles’ words of wisdom on Asking and Receiving:
The activity of receiving allows for a vulnerability, an openness of heart. Many of you wait until the last instant of dire need, then reach out. This is because asking for help is seen as invasive, or pressuring someone. However, in that moment of vulnerability, you let another person know that it is OK to be vulnerable. You give them the gift of being able to give to you, and to see what an openhearted request is.
Asking for assistance will not turn you into greedy individuals who never do anything for themselves. It is not possible. However, when you ask for help before you might need it, even when there is no real need of it, then you are practicing your connection to others and letting them be connected to you, and this is what you are all craving right now.
If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, it is because you are trying to do it alone. We guarantee it. The moment you ask for help, it truly connects you to another individual and you are open to receive. Your heart strings are being pulled by things of true value, your connection, your commitment and love for one another, your love for self, your generosity of heart and spirit.
