Explorations in Self-Mastery

By Steve Beckow
Here’s a new book collecting the articles from the last two months and a half, dealing either with the (muted) experience of Self-Realization I had at Xenia and the inquiry into self-mastery that followed it.
What follows is the introduction to the book.
The book itself can be downloaded here: http://goldenageofgaia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Explorations-in-Self-Mastery-3.pdf
Introduction
This book contains articles for the most part published in Sept. – Dec. 2018.
The articles fall into two categories: ones that relate to the experience of Self-Realization that I had at Xenia Retreat Center on Bowen Island on Sept. 18, 2018 and ones that relate to my work on, as the Arcturians phrased it, mastering every thought and feeling.
One or two articles are included as background or to show the impact of my work on self-mastery on my writing.
There’s nothing that fascinates me more than the workings of the mind and emotions. The two are part of the 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle that we are. And we seem to have fit together only a few small islands of puzzle pieces .
In one little grouping, we see a picture of self-mastery. In another, a picture of Self-Realization. Still another depicts the nature of love. And so on.
And with these few insights into how we’re constructed and operate, we try to steer the vehicle of our lives without crashing into too many things.
If an airplane pilot had as much knowledge of flying as I have of operating this mind-body complex, as S.N. Goenka called it, he or she wouldn’t be allowed in the cockpit.
Remarkably, few of us are educated in school or university in how to be, how to communicate, how to craft a relationship, how to parent, how to handle money – and yet we’re released into the world to make out as best we can.
If we want to know what makes us tick, it seems we have to do the work ourselves, usually without very much counseling. Many counsellors themselves don’t seem to have very much more of a grasp of the workings of the human being than we do.
So we begin to look inwards and observe our moods, our self-commands, our conclusions about life, looking for what makes us stop and start, run forward and put it in reverse.
This is a record of two and a half months out of my lifelong search to understand how I tick.
If it helps you to find your own inner Commander and take charge of yourself, if it helps you to find the Self in the lotus of the heart, I’m overjoyed.
